For many decades, waterways were exposed to a wide range of contaminants. Throughout history, the estuaries contributed largely to the economic prosperity of peoples who live nearby. This prosperity is related to the sediments brought by the rivers. In this respect, some laws in addition to a good control of pollution sources were established to limit the emission of contaminants; however, a large part of sediments still contains these contaminants. As a matter of fact, some persistent contaminants pose a serious threat to the environment. The fact that this problematic is related to the sediments management on a world scale makes of this symposium an international event. This event should be a follow-up to the international symposium first held in 2008 in Lille – France on the Management of Sediments (I2SM), which gave the opportunity to discuss the recent advances related to the Management of sediments dredging, and also gave the opportunity for experts and engineers from all over the world to meet and share their experiences. The great success of the first I2SM urged many States Parties to organize the second I2SM in 2010, the organization of which was finally given to Morocco. The organizing committee cordially invites you to participate in the second I2SM, which will take place in Casablanca.
